To highlight this, the World Health Organization (WHO) designated June 24 to July 24th as Self-Care Month, with July 24 specifically recognized as Self-Care Day. This initiative aims to emphasize that self-care is essential and can be integrated into our lives every day around the clock. So, what exactly is self-care, and how can we incorporate it into our daily routines?
WHAT IS SELF-CARE?:-
Self-care is the practice of taking action to preserve or improve your physical/mental health, coping with illness & disability. This can encompass a wide range of activities, depending on your individual needs and preferences.
SIMPLE WAYS TO PRACTICE SELF-CARE:-
- Curling up with your favorite book
- Listening to your go-to music
- Treating yourself to a pedicure or manicure
- Taking a walk, meditating, or hitting the gym
- Exploring a new hobby, like dancing or learning a new language.
- Cooking and savoring your favorite meal
- Getting a full 8 hours of sleep
- Wearing new clothes just because you feel like it
PERSPECTIVES ON EVERYDAY SELF-CARE:-
Taking care of oneself is a personal journey, shaped by individual experiences and preferences. Self-care means spending time with cat, and listening to favorite songs. “Catching the sunrise when I am feeling down, and cooking my favorite meal are also helpful meal are also helpful self-care activities I indulge in.” Self-care in enjoying little things. “Having coffee, observing, and being aware of my surroundings, and appreciating the beauty around me make me feel content.”
MIND, BODY, SOUL: THE SELF-CARE CIRCLE:-
PHYSICAL SELF-CARE:- Exercise, nutrition, and sleep.
MENTAL SELF-CARE:- Reading, learning, puzzles.
EMOTIONAL SELF-CARE:- Journaling, therapy, mindfulness.
SPIRITUAL SELF-CARE:- Meditation, Prayer, Nature.
SOCIAL SELF-CARE:- Time with loved ones.
WHY SELF-CARE MATTERS:-
Only 6.6% of people engaged in health and wellbeing self care every day, as per a recent study.
By 2030 there will be a global shortfall of 10 million health personnel & 130 million people will require humanitarian aid. Each year, 100 million individuals are impoverished due to healthcare costs, and over 400 million lack access to basic healthcare services.
Note:- Spending time on yourself isn’t selfish — it’s essential self-care. When you’re feeling down, confide in empathetic friends who can offer support. Just like on a flight, where you need to put your own oxygen mask before helping others, taking care of yourself first enables you to better support those around you.
